Today I decided to make a few changes to my website.
Up until now I have been paying for Ghost (Pro) which costs about $25/month. This was great for getting started but self-hosting would be more cost effective.
I decided to host my website on Digital Ocean for a few reasons:
- Familiarity with the product
- Highly recommended on online forums
- One-Click Ghost Droplet deployment
- Cheaper plan at $7/month for 1 AMD CPU, 1 GB RAM, and 25 GB SSD

This YouTube video by Dave Swift provides you with an easy-to-follow walkthrough:
I then went to Namecheap, my domain registrar, and created an A Record for the subdomain blog.arapitech.com pointing to IP address of my Ghost server.
After getting the server up and running, it was time to pick a theme. I decided to go with the Rinnie theme by Bright Themes which much needed features lacking in my current Fumio theme:
- Directories
- Custom Directory Pages
- Read Next
- Dropdown Menus
- Comments
I purchased it for $149 and was able to successfully upload and install it to my new blog site... and this is my first blog post!
I still need to do all the customizing but I'll take care of that later this week.
It's 1:20 a.m. right now and I'm exhausted, but at least tonight's mission is complete 🏆
